A mind trip

I woke up one morning and thought to myself "what can I do to make me happy today?" That same day, I had a friend ask me about a book I'd read a few years back and that is when I got the idea to start my blog. Not sure how many people really read this blog, but I'm loving writing them and feel even more love for my books and their covers.
Recently I went to Long Beach, CA for a little getaway and a hairshow. I knew I needed to leave the cold to help clear my mind, but on my flight home I had an epiphany! I was reading "codependent no more" on the flight and it really made me want to start my book. I thought a few years ago that I'd write about my dating life because that seemed to entertain may friends and clients, but today I decided I'm going to start from the beginning. I had a great childhood and I love telling people my story. So, flying 30,000 feet in the air, I started to write. It might not make it to the top sellers, but in my mind, it is a top seller! I've been pondering my cover and title for my book. I have a few ideas for the title but once again still stuck on a cover... I guess when it comes to mind, it will be perfect!

Penguin Classics

I'm a huge fan of google reader and love finding new things and tidbits... One day while browsing google reader I came across the Penguin Classic books and ABSOLUTELY fell in love with their covers. For Christmas I asked for a few of them and will eventually own the entire collection... With covers like this, how could I not?  I've started to read "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott, Siobhan Kilfeather, Vinca Showalter,  and Elaine Showalter. It's a little hard for me to get into and I'm really picky with my books, but I'm going to keep trying! I also received is Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll which is next on my list but I love the covers so much that I thought I'd share before reading them...

Randomness....

I've been very tempted to write my own memoir over the past few years... I even know of someone I'd like to be my ghost writer to help spruce it up.  I've had some crazy, comedic moments that would for sure entertain some people. But with that being said, what would my cover look like?  Gosh, being such a critic of covers, you'd think I'd have that picked out first! It would have to be something funny, something sweet to go along with my BIG sweet tooth, and for sure something that would show all the bizzare events that have come my way...
My fellow followers, what would your book cover look like?!?!

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

"The Help" by Kathryn Stockett has a simple cover that caught my eye a few times at Barnes and Noble, but I didn't read it until I was recommended it by my soon-to-be mother-in-law. After reading the book, it's cover has so much more meaning. It takes place during the Civil Rights Act, giving you a day to day description of how African American were still being treated. You will laugh, cry, cheer, and cringe! I've never fallen more in love with characters from a book before! Highly recommend buying so you can read it over and over.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max

"I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" by Tucker Max has one intriguing cover! The cover pretty much tells you how this inside contents will be (a chauvinistic guy that treats woman as a game). I read this book for two reasons.... One, I overhead someone reading it at my salon and had to have more! Second, this looked and sounded like a must read for every single girl!!! Being from a small town, I was very naive to the real world of dating and after reading this book, it helped me see all the Tucker Max's out there. You will laugh and want to punch him all in the same page! But before picking up a copy, please keep in mind, this is a very descriptive book with rate R contents...

Home of the books....

Barnes and noble has become my go-to when I need a break from my world or want to appreciate the beauty books have to offer. A cup of hot tea, the sounds of people talking, and all the stories underneath each decorative cover. This is my second home! There's no ipad, kindle, or nook that will ever replace this place to me.

Time of my Life by Allison Winn Scotch

"Time of my Life" by Allison Winn Scotch caught my eye last winter and with a cover like this, how could I pass it by?! It's fun, winterly cover makes you want to stay inside with a big cup of hot coco and this very book. I enjoyed the novel as much as the cover. It's a story about a woman who gets so caught up in her day to day life she starts to wish things would've turn out different. One morning she wakes up to find herself in her college apartment with her college love. She journeys back into time just to figure out that her present life was, after all, just the way it was meant to be. Cute and a great read!

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

"Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen was recommended to me by a friend that knew I had an obsession with book covers. The story and cover are both captivating. It takes you inside the circus life during the great depression, making you love and hate the ways of the show. I found out shortly after reading this book that it is being made into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson. Which, in my opinion, is perfectly fitting!

Codependent No More by Melody Beattie

"Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie maybe isn't the pretties cover but I've been reading it the past few nights and felt like it was a really great book to discuss. I was recommended this book by a friend because I have issues with trying to control other people's lives instead of my own. This book is awesome for everyone! It talks about being codependent on someone that is dependent on a substance, but I feel like this book can help anyone that is trying to make everyone else happy instead of themselves! It's much easier to look at someone and tell them everything they are doing wrong than looking at yourself and seeing what you are doing isn't only making that other person miserable, it's making you unhappy! This book has some great points and helps you see things in a different view. I would've chosen a different cover, but it's bright and straightforward...

Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea by Chelsea Handler

"Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea" by Chelsea Handler has one amazing cover and the contents are even more amazing! Chelsea has won me over from the day I watched her on E! TV and now with her books, I'm even more in love! You will laugh out loud threw the entire book, starting with the cover...

To Love, Honor, and Betray by Stephanie Gertler and Adrienne Lopez

"To Love, Honor, and Betray the secret life of suburban wives" by Stephanie Gertler and Adrienne Lopez not only caught my eye because of the cover, but the title was for sure alluring! This is a book about how and why women seek love outside their marriage. Not saying it's right, but this book will open your eyes to how once married, a man can forget to show their love for the women they call their wife. This is a bunch of short stories about different women who stray away. Very insightful!

Knitting Under the Influence by Claire LaZebnik

I've been knitting about 10 years now and it's one of life's greatest escapes, next to reading (of course!). So, the next best thing is to have a book about knitting! I had one winter where I would go over to a friend's house and we'd knit and drink. It was some of my favorite memories. "Knitting Under the Influence," by Clair LaZebnik was a trip down memory lane. It brings 3 girls with different lifestyles together by knitting and drinking. You will fall in love with each one of them and even years after reading this book, I'm curious what they are up to these days.

The Late Boomer's Revolution by Amy Cohen

The very first book I can honestly say I bought just because I loved the cover was "The Late Bloomer's Revolution" by Amy Cohen. It's about a young successful writer in New York with the pressure to marry. I bought this book shortly after my divorce and it was the perfect book to keep me going on my journey to find happiness in myself and not threw a man. The book was funny, emotional, and a great read!!! I give it 5 stars on the cover and 5 stars on the content inside!
